GEORGE OSTERTAG
PHOTOGRAPHY
George's passion is the great outdoors and all things wild. He has an eye for the smallest detail, as well as the grand scheme. He is intrigued by the science of nature. George has a strong environmental ethic and infuses his photography with the love and respect he feels for his subjects. When photographing sensitive natural and cultural subjects, he weighs the value and the impact of each picture. Should either the taking or sale of a photo in any way threaten or harm the subject, George will walk away from the project.
George's travels have crisscrossed the continental United States and carried him into Canada and Mexico. He has spent long hours on lonely mountaintops. He loves all terrains and habitats, each has a signature beauty. Parks, preserves, wildlife areas, national forests and wilderness areas are his native home. But he does find time to photograph cities, people, places, festivals, cultures and all things civilized. The contradiction between the two enhances his eye for defining the image and finding the unusual.
He uses Nikon lenses and cameras and shoots in both 35mm and digital formats. His photography library now exceeds 250,000 images; his stock list is both extensive and varied.
In addition to his own book titles and magazine projects, George's photography has appeared in the nation's leading newspapers and such national and regional publications as Outdoor Photographer, Sierra , Backpacker, Natural History, Wilderness, Friendly Exchange, Northwest Living and Native Plants. His images also have appeared in dozens of corporate calendars, as well as the calendar lines for Audubon, Barnes and Noble, MeadWestvaco, Shearson and TeNeus. His images grace note cards, postcards, national park brochures and advertisements. His partial credit list provides a more detailed look at his clients and markets.
While George typically works freelance, he has worked as an independent contractor for company product lines. He is available for assignments and will work on a hourly, daily or project rate. George's stock work is available to clients through the stock agencies of Superstock and Robertstock.
In the field of fine art photography, he has been the featured photographer at exhibitions on the East and West Coasts. Fine art prints can be ordered directly from the photographer. For details on the available prints, sizes, mounting and shipping, click fine art.
